imageIt is my pleasure to introduce to you my bestie, Katina Dowley owner and proprietor of “Katina’s Cupcake Fetish.” Everyone loves cupcakes right? And everyone makes cupcakes right? When I asked Katina what makes her cupcakes different from the thousands of others out there, her answer was simple. They taste good.  As a self-described food connoisseur, I can say that I have seen many a concoction that looked fabulous but tasted like unsalted sand paper and I’m sure you all can relate.  Katina’s cupcakes (regular cakes too!) not only look fabulous but taste divine as well! A perfectionist at heart she spends a lot of time honing her craft and working with her customers to bring their vision to life enabling her to bring together her many talents in art, design, and cooking and incorporate them into her thriving cupcake business.  Each of her recipes are one of a kind and not anything you can find on the innerwebz.  Some of her standouts are: Katina’s Vanilla Strawberry Cake (yum!) (Seasonal) Peach Ciroc Cake (yum, yum!)  Salted Caramel Cake (yum, yum, yum!) and the classics like Red Velvet, Chocolate, and Vanilla Cake.  Not only is baking therapeutic for Katina, there’s also the joy she gets from hearing from her clients about how much they’ve enjoyed her cakes. imageThe greatest compliment to her is when her 1st time customers come back for more! She is based out of South Jersey and currently services areas including: Philadelphia, Delaware, New Jersey and New York. If you’re in the Maryland and DC area she can work with you as well. For those not in those areas, fear not, she is working on a shipping service as well. She is currently working on launching her official website, but for now you can check her out on her Facebook page at – Katina’s Cupcake Fetish or contact her at : Katinascupcakefetish@gmail.com and tell her I sent you 🙂 Every cake she bakes, she bakes with love and once you’ve had one, you won’t just be a customer, you will become family. Happy eating!!

The Beautiful One

I don’t even know where to begin. I am in shock and I am saddened to hear about the death of Prince.  It doesn’t feel right saying it nor does it feel right to speak it.  2016 has not been a good year thus far for music. We have already lost so many great and inspiring artists, ICONS. A lot of people say that today is like learning about Michael’s death all over again. I disagree. I always knew Michael would not live to be old so although sad, I wasn’t surprised by it. But Prince…. Prince’s death has blindsided me, along with the rest of the world.  I was just telling a co- worker last week how I really hoped that Prince would stop by Philly for his pop up one man show. Not to be. I was excited to learn that he would be writing his memoirs, due to come out next year. Not to be. There’s not a single male R&B or Pop artist out today who is not either channeling Michael or Prince and these are facts. I can not listen to his music right now. Not now. I can’t handle the news coverage.  When I was a kid, my mom used to play the Purple Rain soundtrack and the “The Beautiful Ones” always stopped me in my tracks. It is my favorite song of his. The way he starts of so soft and vulnerable and by the end screaming and pleading, and that guitar? It stirs so many emotions.  Feminine, yet very much a man, a freak yet sensitive, Rock yet R&B. A musical genius who could play multiple instruments. An artist ALWAYS true to himself and his craft. That is Prince.  To all of the people who were lucky enough to see him perform last week, who didn’t know they were witnessing history, I hope they know what a gift he gave.  To say he will be missed is an understatement. His influence, undeniable.  He has left us so much and even though he’s gone we will still be discovering even more of his genius for many years to come.

A Room with a View

Let me just say that if money were no object, I would eat lobster 7 days a week. And once you’ve had the 1 1/2 lb lobster at R2l, a chic restaurant in center city Philadelphia, I guarantee you won’t want lobster from anywhere else.  Me and my Bestie got together for date night (it keeps our relationship fresh 😉 ) Both of us had been wanting to go this restaurant for quite some time and we finally made it there last night. Make no mistake this is the most I’ve spent on dinner in a looooooong time but I assure you, it was worth it. Although I knew that R2l was a high end restaurant, a part of me was afraid it would be one of those pretentious places. You know what I mean, you walk in and the record comes to a screeching halt, eyes stare at you like you should be eating at Denny’s or something, but there was none of that here. This place is known for it’s beautiful view of Philadelphia and it did not disappoint as we got to witness the beautiful sunset during our meal.  This is the perfect date night destination. Chic decor, music playing throughout, it’s definitely for the grown and sexy so of course me and the bestie felt right at home 😉 ) Our drinks were good and strong, and our server was delightful. Now for the decadent part of our tour, the lobster mac and cheese.   image

Foodgasm overload. This dish was so buttery, so cheesy and so lobstery (yes I just made the word up) it really was sinful but oh so right.  Along with that we also got the grilled truffle flatbread which was sensational.   imageTruth be told we could’ve just had that and would have been completely satisfied. But then came our entree (Pictured at the top of the page) 1 1/2 lbs of lobstery goodness with a saffron glaze, classic baked potatoes, and grilled vegetable relish. Butter poached lobster. (Did your brain just explode?) Ummmmm, YUM!  I took my time eating because I wanted it to last FOR-EVAH!!!!! Shout out to the girls at the next table who almost left half a plate of lobster mac and cheese behind, who The Bestie and myself deemed INSANE! We had a fabulous night, with fabulous food, and fabulous drinks. I may have to create a special R2l budget because I will be heading back in the very near future. Happy hour anyone?
