In an age where everyone is in competition for likes, followers and viewers, our attention span is decreasing by the day. There is a lot of noise out there on the inner webz and most times it is stuff I don’t want to read OR see so it’s refreshing to come across something I can actually relate to. On Jada Pinkett-Smith’s show, “Red Table Talk”, (exclusively on Facebook) 3 generations of women which consist of Jada, her daughter Willow, and Jada’s mother Adrienne, have very intimate conversations about numerous topics such as body image, self-preservation and personal growth. The segments are usually less than 20 minutes long but a lot is covered in that time and the discussions are so good that it leaves you wanting more. I wouldn’t say that the show is necessarily catered to black women but naturally with 3 black women at the table, there are some experiences that they talk about that is exclusively part of the black experience. These are conversations that if women aren’t currently having with their inner circle, they should. These are conversations WORTH sharing because so many times as women we keep so much inside as we are constantly trying to be everything to everybody. Sometimes you have to check yourself and a very good example of that is the conversation Jada had with actress, Gabrielle Union. The two women had been on the outs for about 17 years, neither one not really even knowing WHY there was tension. Granted, they were never friends but there was definitely some unspoken animosity. Both women were honest about the space they were in at that time vs. the space they are in today. Each had to check themselves and identify the insecurities which caused them both to be so petty for so long. This show is ultimately about HEALING and we ALL can use that. I look forward to hearing more from Miss Jada! Has anyone out there checked out the show? What are your thoughts? Sound off!
